Red-tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis) are a fairly common sight in Yellowstone. In fact, when identifying hawks here it is a safe bet, that is is a red-tailed unless you can prove otherwise. As is the case with many raptors the Red-tailed Hawk displays sexual dimorphism (remarkable differences between the male and female). Females are up to 25% larger than males. Tuff Cliff, Yellowstone.
