Carter Mountain divides the South Fork of the Shoshone River on its northern slopes and the Greybull River on its southern slopes. The thin rim of "wall" which graces it's western slopes at the eastern end of the mountain will light up dramatically as the sun sets in the west, particularly in the summers months.
