Bison (Bison bison) gather around Yellowstone's hot spots during cold spells throughout the winter months. The steam in the air makes their faces frosty, but their heavy facial hair insulates them from that cold. Because of the warmth in the ground, the snow accumulation around the hot spots is less also, so finding something to graze on is often easier too.
