Bison (Bison bison) calves are born in early May in Yellowstone. By that time the bulls have wandered off away from the herd and lead generally solitary lives. The cows and calves collect into what is called a nursery herd as there is safety in numbers. Here it appears that at 5 calves have decided that one particular mother is worth waiting in line for! In truth though, they each have their own to return to. Blacktail Ponds, Yellowstone.
