This Great Blue heron (Ardea herodias) is decked out in full breeding plumage. Herons can be very territorial and this one claimed the confluence of Trout Creek and the Yellowstone river, in the middle of Yellowstone's Hayden Valley. The Reddish Egret and Little Blue Heron could be mistaken for the Great Blue Heron, but are much smaller, and lack white on the head and yellow in the bill.
